Rolf Bjerkvig has been appointed Head of the Oncology Department in January 2011. Prof. Bjerkvig currently holds the position of Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Bergen, Norway, where he also served as the chairman of the Department of Biomedicine between 2003-2005. He is also former co-director of the National Gene Therapy Program in Norway. He is on the editorial board of several international journals, is a member of several national and international committees for oncology funding, and has served on numerous national and international scientific committees related to cancer research. He coordinated the FP6 integrated project on ‘Angiotargeting’ between 2004-2009. Prof. Bjerkvig’s primary interests are the elucidation of the mechanisms of tumor cell migration within the CNS and mechanisms of tumor angiogenesis and therapeutic approaches for the prevention of angiogenesis in brain tumors. Prof. Bjerkvig has been honored with numerous international science awards for his research in oncology.
